Why would anyone need a mentor in internet marketing? Some people have the idea when they get started in Internet Marketing that they’re going to just learn the hard way and figure things out on their own by the school of hard knocks. That’s fine if you’re a masochist and willing to waste $10.000’s and hundreds of hours on things that don’t work. The rest of us realize that perhaps we could get there a little faster if we learned from someone else’s mistakes, and decide to seek out a mentor.

There are probably millions of people who call themselves internet marketers – everyone from network marketers with one sales page to anyone with a blog or mailing list, to people who are actually earning a substantial income from it. It is possible to make millions of dollars on a monthly basis from the internet – some of my mentors have.

The top Internet Marketers possess these characteristics:

1)      They are PASSIONATE about Internet Marketing

2)      They have EXPERTISE in an area of Internet Marketing

3)      They have measurable financial RESULTS (minimum 6 figures)

If you’re looking to buy a training product from someone who does not possess these 3 qualities, I think you’re wasting your time.

Finding a mentor works in every industry or profession in the world where you want more than just a job. If you are excited about one day becoming an entrepreneur in your industry, them finding a successful mentor is probably going to be your fastest way of getting there.

Mentors do not want to teach someone who has no experience in their industry, they want to teach someone who has interest, loyalty, perseverance and a hard work ethic, as well as an aptitude for fast learning and quick problem solving.

I laugh when I hear friends in online marketing tell me of people who ask them to coach them in internet marketing but have no money to pay for it. Unless you’re a single mom, living in a third world country, or in prison, you’re not likely going to find someone to coach you for free. In general – there is only one way you are going to get someone to coach you to successful online marketing, and that’s if you have something to offer in return. This may include things like:

  • Paying them to coach you
  • Working for them
  • Offering to work for free

If you are successful at landing a job for a successful online marketer, you will usually not learn at the same pace or experience the same opportunities as you would working for them for free. By working for free you will see other ways of earning cash that you wouldn’t if you were being paid to do the job. Besides, why would a successful marketer want to pay you to have to also teach you, when they can hire or outsource someone with more experience.

I recommend first that you pay for some of your training. Make sure it is from a reputable company with passion, expertise and results, and great testimonials of people who have taken their program. Gain some knowledge this way.

The best option by far that I recommend in finding an Internet Marketing Mentor, is that you offer to work for free. Remember, you don’t have to start off full-time, you can start by offering 1 or 2 days a week for free until your online businesses can carry your expenses, which will allow you the freedom to work full-time for free. The ideas you discover along the way will create opportunities to joint-venture with your mentor that will speed up your ability to earn outrageous online income.

So where do successful Internet Marketers hang out? Seek them out on the internet, forums, blogs, Meetup groups, trade shows, seminars, and conferences. Meeting them for the first time is not the place to ask someone to coach you. Spend some time posting on their blog, forum, Twitter and Facebook accounts and you’ll begin to get noticed. Buy their products and they’ll remember who you are when you do eventually talk to them. Listen, most marketers are going to ask you to buy their program to learn what they know. No one wants to obligate themselves to training someone. You will need to show some interest in them first before they reciprocate.

Also go out and give internet marketing a try. Build some websites. Get your feet wet. A mentor will probably not want to work with you if you have no experience at all. Don’t ever argue with them. Make suggestions but don’t waste their time. You want to be someone they want to work with. They may not be right, but Internet Marketing is sometimes a trial and error industry.

If you stick with it and show an aptitude for making good choices, you too will eventually learn the tools you need to make a full-time living on the internet yourself, and have the freedom you desire.  If you put the time in, become successful and create products that others benefit from, you will eventually also have people coming to you to become their Internet Marketing Mentor.
